Things to Know about All Kinds of Bracelets

Although these days a bracelet is only an accessory worn for aesthetical reasons, when bracelets were first worn by man their purpose was a bit different. In the Neolithic, when it’s thought they were first used, it was meant to protect its carrier from evil spirits. Back in those days they were manufactured from wood and animal bones and they were worn around the wrist, exactly the way people wear them nowadays.

Bracelets’ popularity, as pieces of jewelry, is tied to Antiquity, more exactly to Ancient Egypt, around the year 2000 BC. Still, even then, the bracelets were not only meant to make heir possessor look nicer, but also to protect him (they were mainly a religious object, not a purely aesthetic one). In Ancient Greece, for example, the bracelets were part of the soldier’s armor. They were manufactured from leather and metal and, sometimes, they were decorated with precious metals such as gold (white or Yellow) or silver.

They come in various shapes and designs. Either hand made or manufactured by specialists, from metals such as silver or gold, they are always very appropriate for making us look better. Let’s further explore the variety of bracelets that we can find on the market:

  • Charm bracelets: they are highly personalized. In fact, these charm bracelets are just like necklaces with various pendants attached to them. Each pendant stands for a certain characteristic of the person who wears the bracelet (the zodiac sign or the initial of the person’s first name, for example). The are many different types of charms available.
  • Gemstone bracelets: these are bracelets that are decorated with various types of gemstones, from very expensive ones, such as diamonds, to more affordable ones, such as onyx, for example. They are usually quite chic and suited for many different occasions (you can wear them with a more casual outfit or a very formal and elegant one).
  • Cuff bracelets: they are usually made of materials such as leather and they fit tight to the wrist. They are especially worn by teenagers or, generally speaking, young people and they can easily be suited to imaginative and daring outfits.
  • Bangle bracelets: this type of bracelets is very fashionable nowadays in almost every context. They are usually made of some type of solid material (either silver, gold or plastic. The price of the bracelet is highly dependent on the material it’s made of) and they most often come in a circular shape.
  • Tennis bracelets: these bracelets are the classic ones, very expensive and aristocratic. Buying one is quite an investment, and thus it is recommended to be extra careful before spending your money: you have to be sure that the materials are genuine and that you won’t be tricked into buying a simple forgery. The tennis bracelets are not solid, as the bangle bracelets. They are flexible and, usually, thin and discrete. Even though they are very elegant, they can be matched to both formal and informal outfits. It is to be said that, when you’re wearing a thin tennis bracelet, you have to be careful not to break it (it can easily get hooked, especially if it is a bit loose on the wrist).

Every type has its own charm and fine appeal. Some people prefer massive ones (chunky bangles, made either of metal or plastic and a variety of color), while others would rather wear a discrete and elegant tennis bracelet.

There are some aspects to be kept in mind when choosing your accessories, such as:

  • What you usually wear: if you like luxurious and opulent bracelets, but you’re committed to wearing jeans and other casual outfits it would be a total waste to spend your money on buying expensive ones. Instead, choose something more ‘light’, something to match your clothing style.
  • Your haircut, as well as the shape and contour of your face: well, this criterion probably sounds a bit strange. Why would my haircut count when choosing my bracelets? The answer is that it has to match your earrings, and your earrings have to look good with your haircut and with your face’s shape.
  • Your budget: even though we’d all love to have the most beautiful and expensive accessories, it’s best to know our own budget limitations. This way, we won’t end up spending more than we can afford on bracelets or any other kind of accessories.

Summing up, bracelets are accessories that can make us look more beautiful and more adequate to a certain occasion. From the various types of bracelets, it is very important to choose the ones that match the way you dress, as well as your other accessories. If you keep in mind the information presented above, you’ll surely manage to make the best out of your looks!
